About Me
Hello and welcome to Equination Equine Services!
Like many, I’m your classic “horse girl”—born with an unshakable passion for everything equine. While my aunts had horses when I was young, it took years of persistent begging before my mom finally gave in and signed me up for riding lessons. She knew once I started, there would be no turning back—and she was right!
At age 8, I began taking lessons and joined 4H. From there, I immersed myself in every horse-related activity I could find. By age 9, I had landed at a dressage-based barn, where I eventually fell in love with Eventing.
During high school, I worked for a Standardbred harness racing stable and at the Chicago racetracks, where I gained valuable experience in conditioning and equine rehab. In college, I studied Equine Science and Horse Science Technology at Black Hawk East in Kewanee, IL. There, I deepened my knowledge of western disciplines, including roping, reining, and barrel racing, and competed as part of the IHSA show team.
After college, I accepted a position with USDA Veterinary Services. Over five years, I worked alongside a wide range of veterinarians, lived in several states, and worked with just about every type of farm animal you can think of. I truly loved that chapter of my life.
Eventually, I met my now-husband and followed him through his military career, which brought us to where we are today—Anchorage, Alaska.
You might be surprised to learn that Alaska has a vibrant horse community. I’ve been lucky enough to bring my longtime mare with me. The summers are short, the winters are long and dark—but the passion for horses here is strong.
Before moving north, I decided to breed my mare through embryo transfer, using a recipient mare that stayed with friends in Texas. Thanks to their well-set-up stall cameras, I was able to watch the pregnancy from afar. Just after her “safe date,” I flew back to Texas to be there for the foaling. After a long journey filled with both excitement and challenges, we were blessed with a big, healthy filly!
That experience sparked something in me.
While I was back in Alaska, I realized just how important—and exhausting—it is to keep a close eye on pregnant mares during foaling season. I remembered all those sleepless nights watching the stall camera, and strangely enough, I enjoyed it. Even when nothing was happening, I loved being part of the process.
That’s how Equination Equine Services was born.
Since then, I’ve helped several friends monitor their mares so they could get some rest, and I’ve been there to alert them when labor began. It’s work I truly love, and I’m proud to offer that same care and support to other owners during foaling season.
If you’re looking for a dependable, knowledgeable, and caring person to keep an eye on your mare when you can’t—whether you need a full night of sleep or just a break—I’m here to help. I know how time-consuming and stressful this season can be. Let me give you peace of mind.
